Why kettlebells and H.I.I.T.?

KETTLEBELLS - I love kettlebells for so many reasons. Exercises you do with kettlebells tend to be more dynamic than typical weightlifting movements. While I believe there is certainly a time and place for more “typical” movements, I think swinging, snatching, cleaning, etc. is much more fun. Kettlebells build stability. A dumbbell or barbell is typically evenly weighted on each end. A kettlebell however, holds it’s mass below the handle, which challenges your coordination and motor skills.

H.I.I.T. - what is it?! High Intensity Interval Training. I’m sure you have heard the term, but do you really know why it’s a great training method? No matter how much you enjoy working out, it’s unlikely that you have two or three extra hours in your day to spend at the gym leisurely pumping iron while simultaneously sending emails and checking your Instagram. With H.I.I.T., you can go hard for short intervals of time and see great results. Here’s a bit more about the science:

  • The more oxygen you consume, the more calories you burn. H.I.I.T. training will require your body to use a massive amount of oxygen, therefore burning a massive amount of calories.

  • Your body continues to burn calories when the workout is over due to EPOC (Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption).

  • To help recover and repair your muscles, your body will produce elevated levels of hormones which lead to increases in muscle mass.

  • Want to know even more? Check out this American Council on Exercise (ACE) article on benefits of H.I.I.T. training.

SO IS THAT ALL? - No! As much as I love kettlebells and H.I.I.T., I do not discriminate! Sessions may include dumbbells, barbells, suspension trainers, cable machines, various cardio machines, and more.
